Hello Bob,
I am primarily related to a Sarah Barker, widow, who married Richard Simpson as his only wife back in the very early 1700's.At this time I am pretty well convinced that she was a daughter of Moses Johnson of Surry County, VA. She was first married to a Barker, by whom she had one son, William Barker. William named a son, Moses; and Sarah had a son, also named Moses, by Richard Simpson.I am a Creed and Beckwith descendant, also of Surry County,VA and have been familiar with the fact that Priscilla Briggs had married a William Barker, and Sarah Johnson was a cousin of Priscilla. My more recent interests have been checking out the other families who had interconnected in some way with these Briggs, Lucas, Gilliam, Chappell, and a few other families who have connected back to Thomas Simpson, brother to my Richard. Later generation Simpsons settled into Caswell County, NC. All of this may seem rather obtuse to most researchers, but marriage connections were often made with folks whom other kinsmen knew, especially when one was looking for someone of the same social and economics status (or better) to find a compatible mate.
On a much earlier level, I am a descendant of Anne Webb, wife of Castello Hill of Northumberland County, VA; both being my GGGGG grandparents. Their daughter, Winifred, married Henry Tapscott of Lancaster/Cumberland County, VA, who also settled into Caswell County, NC. Henry and Winifred's son, Edney Tapscott married Sarah Windsor, a Simpson descendant. Descendants of the Webb, Hill, Tapscott and Simpson families married into some of the Barkers who settled into Caswell County.
I will be interested in any insights you might provide regarding any of this. To be frank, I have relied upon astute researchers like you, for information on the Barker and related families, as this has not been one of my original concerns; but now I see that I should have a deeper interest considering the implications I have encountered.
Very best regards,
