??Lewis Barge Sr. Will ??Fayetteville, Cumberland County, NC
??In the name of God, Amen. I, Lewis Barge Senior of the County of Cumberland in he State of North Carolina being of sound mind and called to memory the uncertainty of this life and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do ordain this my last will and testament in the manner and form following That is to say
??Imprimis I resign my soul into the hands of God who gave it and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christainlike manner ??
Then I devise and bequeath to my son George Barge and to his heirs forever the house and lot in Fayetteville in which he now lives near the Courthouse with the outhouses and appurtenances thereunto belonging, also the sum of Four Hundred silver dollars to be paid to him by my executor in cash as soon as the same can be collected and made _____ ??
Then I devise and bequeath to my son Lewis Barge and his heirs forever the house in which he has lived several years last part on the road to Campbellton with an arced of ground and the outhouses and other improvements belonging to the same, also all my lots in Campbellton together with the shop at present occupied by Doctor Henderson contiguous to the large tavern belonging to me with so much of the lot belonging and adjoining to the same that may extend ten feet back of the smoke house which said lot with the appurtenances thereunto belonging is in charge for a share of the cool Spring house and lands adjoining thereto, formerly intended for him but since conveyed by me to Oliver Pearce and others.
??I devise and bequeath to my son in law, John Wilson and my daughter Polly Wilson during their or either of their lives and after their deaths to the heirs of the said body of the said Polly Wilson my large Tavern in Fayetteville lately occupied by James Baker, excepting however the room in the store which is to belong to the store.
??I devise and bequeath to my son in law John Wilson and my daughter Polly Wilson during either of their lives and after their deaths to the heirs of said Polly Wilson and to my son Lewis Barge the _____ which runs between the large Tavern and the shop occupied by Doctor Henderson which alley is not to be divided between them but is to remain open to their use and to the use of their heirs of the said Polly Wilson and Lewis Barge. It is my desire that if either of my children, George, Lewis or Polly should die without lawful issue and the said George or Lewis should not after my death convey away the several shares herein before devised to them respectfully that the said shares should descend to the survivors of them the said George, Lewis and Polly to be equally divided between them. ??
I devise and bequeath to my beloved wife, Christiana Barge, the store adjoining my Tavern, lately occupied by James Baker together with the store lately occupied by Samuel Goodwin during the full term of her natural life and after her death to my son John Barge and his heirs forever. ??
The house which I now live on the road to Raleigh, the brick yard and dwelling house and other buildings appertaining thereto and the lands belonging thereto on the east side of said road containing about 500 acres, about 10 acres of land on the West Side of the road aforesaid purchased by James Hoog about 35 acres of land in Fayetteville near Robinson Numfordus adjoining the 54 acre tract, 200 acres on the road to Deep River commonly called Corner Dowds Spring, 200 acres on Turnbulls Creek in Cumberland County, 400 acres lying on both sides of Downing Creek, a lot nearby opposite James Kirvans and a lot in Fayetteville commonly called Yankee Hall together with all my negros, all my stocks of horses, cattle, sheep and hogs, all my farming utensils, household furniture, cash and other estate of what nature of kinds ever, whether real or personal, except such as may be contained the foregoing devises and bequeaths, I give, devise and bequeath to my beloved wife Christiana Barge for and during the term of her natural life and after her death to be divided among my children, Abraham Barge, Abel Barge, Sally Barge, Rachael Barge, and John Barge and to their heirs forever, but if any or either of them should die without issue then the share of such legatee to go to the surviving legatees last mentioned to be fairly and equally distributed among them unless the shares of said legatees should be conveyed by them (being lawful age) after my death.
??It is also my will that all accounts between myself and each of my children should be considered as balanced. I do hereby appoint my beloved wife Christiana Barge sole executrix of this last will and testament.
??In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 4th day of May in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eighteen Hundred and Eight.
