Jacob Barden b.abt. 1820, Married Amanda (Arminda?) Fuller,b. 1822, Twn of Pomfret, Chautauqua Co.NY., Dau. of Daniel and Clarisa Fuller Jacob died young and is supposed to be buried in ForestHill Cem. Fredonia, Chaut.Co.,NY. Jacob had two daughters, Mary Ann b.Dec.25,1842, and Caroline b.Feb.19,1845. MaryAnn married James Apthorp b. Oct 11,1836,Caxton, Cambridgeshire,England, the son of William and Sarah(Thomas) Apthorp. MaryAnn had a son Lewis b. May20,1863, by James. James enlisted in the 112th NY Inf., came back to Fredonia on sick leave and died Aug 19,1863. MaryAnn then married James' brother Charles Apthorp b.April10,1844, in Caxton. MaryAnn had by Charles the following: Francesb.1865, Samuel G. b.1867, Fredrick B. 1876, HarryJ. b.1878, Nellie b. 1882. Charles enlisted in the 49th NY. Caroline married David Samuel Apthorp Sr. b.Feb 27, 1848, in Fredonia, Chaut. Co.,NY The son of James and Emily Sarah (Johnson). David and Caroline had the following children: Amanda (Minnie)b.Aug26,1876, David Samuel Jr.b.May12,1880, Daniel Stephen b.May12,1880(twin), Arminda b.Feb.20,1884. Caroline died of Typhoid, Sept.20,1896, bur. ForestHill Cem. David also had a child out of wedlock, a Mary Baines, whom Caroline raised. After Caroline's death, David married a Lillian Eliza Snyder b.Aug.23,1875,in Ohio, Minnie's best friend, and had three more children. David Sr. d.May 18,1906. Then Lilian married Daniel Stephen, her step son, and had three more children by him. The Apthorp Family suffered terribly during the Civil War. William and Sarah Apthorp lost sons:#1 William Jr.,112thNY d.May 1,1863,Fredonia,Returned sickleave Dysentry, #2 James, 112thNY d.Aug.19,1863,Fredonia,Returned sickleave Dysentry, #3 George,112thNY, Captured June 1864, at Bermuda Hundred, died Nov.18,1864, in Salisbury Prison Camp of starvation, #4 Samuel, 112thNY, Captured June 1864, at Bermuda Hundred, died Nov.3,1864,in Salisbury Prison Camp of starvation. #5 Charles 49thNY survived the war, was called up at Getteysburg. James and Emily Apthorp lost a son Thomas, wounded at Cold Harbor and died about a month later June 23, 1864 in Alexandria,Va. The Apthorp's I have a wealth of info on, but the Barden's, ziltch. There were and are quite a few Bardens in Chautauqua Co.,but I haven't been able to make a connection. I do hope this clarifies the Apthorp-Barden connection for you. Cliff
