I too am descended from Jacob Barden through Mary Barden and Charles Apthorp. Within the year,I have been in contact with a descendant of Caroline Barden and David Apthorp as well as a Lewis Apthorp, the son of Mary Barden and her first husband James Apthorp.
There are a lot of names mentioned above that were buried in the Fredonia Pioneer Cemetery on Main Street snd the Webster Street Cemetery off Chautauqua Road.
So far I have the same brick wall on the forebears of Jacob Barden. My source has an oral story from the family that the Jacob Barden family was from Massachusetts.
One clue, Mary Barden Apthorp was a member of the United Brethern Church which may provide a lead.
I also have a rare picture of Mary Barden and her husband Charles Apthorp. The picture was taken around 1905 and the couple had a hot dog stand at Point Gratiot in Dunkirk, New York. The stand was located a the end of the electric trolley track and the locals would go to this park for relief during the hot summer weeks. As a trist of fate, my brother Jack bought the same building after World War II and this became his families home.
