"Mr. William Barden was born in Staplehursh, Kent Co., England, Dec. 17, 1819, and came to this country, landing in Westfield at the once famous "Barcelona Harbor" where the freight was received for nearly all the southern towns of Chautauqua County for many years and until the Lake Shore R. R. was built. After a voyage on the Ocean of 6 weeks and 4 days, Mr. Barden landed in this town on September 1st, 1851, and made his first home in Sherman, N. Y., and since then he has been a resident of Westfield Township, where he now resides; for a long term of years...." Taken from a promotional ad.
