George Willis Barclay b.February 22,1904 d.August 13,1996 in Tyler Co was the son of James Walter Barclay b. 1871 and Laura Pool Barclay. He was the grandson of James Walter Barclayb.1831 and Mary Hoffey or Huffey (and Alice Delila Riley and Josh W Pool) back to Robert Barclay b 1718 and Leah Madison Barclay of Rowan Co NC.
George W Barclay married Ruby Emily Vinson in 1924, when she was 17 and he was 20. They eloped. They had been childhood sweethearts since Ruby picked George out when she was in the second grade and they were students at Mt Zion School, Chester, Tx.
Ruby was the daughter of James Alfred Vison and Ada George Vinson (other ancestors were the Bullocks and the Peters).
George W and Ruby had three children; George W Barclay Jr, Ruby Nell Barclay Seale and Teddy Barclay Pope. They had these grandchildren; George's children; George W Barclay III, James Michael Barclay, Walter C Barclay, and the eldest, sister Cathey LaVerne. Their mother is Shirley Catherine Anderson Barclay. Cathey LaVerne Little has four children. Ruby Nell's children; Eugene Lamar Seale, Keith Ross Seale, Suzanne Seale Knowles. The Seale grandchildren have these children; Michelle and Mark, Keith's children, Ann, Lamar's daughter, and Suzanne's three children, Jeremy and twin sisters Emily and Jennifer. Teddy's children; Perry B. Pope, Jr and Dennise L. Pope.
George W Barclay's wife is Cholteele Ford Smith Barclay originally of Woodville,and they have just recently moved back to Woodville from Beaumont. Ruby Nell Barclay's husband is Eugene Seale orinially lf Beaumont and they live in Dallas. Teddy LaVerne Barclay's husband was Perry Bean Pope of Houston and they lived in Houston, the Bryan, then Houston again.
George received his education at the schools of Mt Zion, SFASTC (BA), and SHSTC (MA). He was a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent in the rural school of east Texas, then the Beaumont Independent School District. He came out of retirement at age 70 and served as the last county school superintendent of Tyler County for four years for a total of 46 years of service.
George and Ruby lived in Chester, then Batson, Tx in Hardin co. 11 years, then Beaumont,Tx in Jefferson co. 23 years, then Woodville, Tx in Tyler co. 31 years, where Ruby still lives today. George was a 32nd degree Mason and received his 70 year membership award shortly before his death in 1996.
He and Ruby were married 72 years and had the longest marriage in the vacinity. George lived to be the oldest Barclay in memory. George Willis Barclay Sr is buried at Mt Zion cemetery, Chester, TX along with several of his sisters and brothers and his parents and grandparents.
