Walter Barclay b 1774 Rowan Co Nc was the son of Robert and Leah (Madison) Barclay of Scot descent. Robert was thought to be the grandson of Robert Barclay the Scot Quaker apologist. Some of Walter's siblings were Samuel, Robert, David and maybe William and 3 sisters. Walter went to Kent and there married Elizabeth McQueen b 1790 in 1804. (He may have had an earlier marriage and a son Peter, b before 1804).Walter and Elizabeth then moved to Tenn and Ark. Eventually, Walter and Elizabeth and their sons and daughters all went to east Texas around 1828 to the Menard district that became Tyler County and four other nearby counties. Elizabeth McQueen's two brothers went, too, and one or more of Walter's brother Samuel's sons went to Texas too. In all, here is who went to Texas; Walter and Elizabeth and sons Robert, Anderson, James, Jeremiah-Todd, and Milton and daughters Polly and Louisa. Nephews (sons of Samuel) may have been David, John and William. Milton McQueen and his brother Mr. McQueen. Robert's wife Sarah McKinsey and their children already born, Anderson's wife Sara Proter (not correct spelling) and their children already born, and several Negro employees. They had heard about Texas from Sam Houston and David Crockett. I would like to hear from Peter's descendants who might likely be those Barclays who are in Richmond Kentky, Madison Co, today. Who are they, where are they, and who was Peter's mother, Walter's son's, or was it a myth about Peter. Or, if he was not Walter's son, who were his parents? The information about Peter came from the Kentky historical society in around 1960. I have made many contacts, trying to find out, to no avail.
