Elizabeth Rigsby was the 17 year old widow of Jerry Todd, shot on election day, 1850, Tyler Co. Son of Walter Barclay b 1774 Rowan Co NC and Elizabeth McQueen b 1790 Madison Co Kentucky both buried Hartsmill cemetery Tyler Co. See Tyler Co Gen Society webpage for all manner of information about this significant East Texas Tyler Co pre republic family. Elizabeth Rigsby was the niece of Virginia Foster, wife of Judge James Barclay, congressman, sheriff, agent to the Ala. Indians, etc. and Martha Foster, wife of Walter Barclay, my great grandfather's first wife. The infant son of Eliza and Jerry Barclay was W. A. Barclay of Falls county who at age 16 left Judge Barclay's farm to go and seek his father's murderer and fortune. Found murderer had already died but fortune was in cotton. Had big cotton plantation in Falls county near town named for him, Barclay. A ghost town today, only a small settlement of farms cut off the plantation in 1920. Mr Barclay died in Waco where he is buried. I assume Jerry Todd was the first husband, due to her age. She did remarry. Her son, W A hop a wagon train headed for Tyler Co at about 10 years of age maybe as a stow away and lived on the Barclay settlement at Harmony where Judge Barclay's home is occupied and stands today, a working ranch of great vintage beauty. I was by it a few days ago and took pictures. Was left to James Barclays daughter Arvilla Barclay Reisinger, whose husband died in the Civil War. Someone wrote me that mother Elizabeth Rigsby lived there nearby, also, I did not investigate, this not being my line. I was descended through the eldest son of Walter and Elizabeth McQueen Barclay, Robert m to Sarah McKinsey.
