BARCLAY, NEWTON, MARYKIRK
Posted by: Ron Dempsey Date: January 10, 1999 at 08:06:38
  of 1575

I have traced my 3g grandmother Katherin BARCLAY
to Robert BARCLAY of Newton, Marykirk, and he is
thought to be descended from Alexander a son
of the last Laird of Mathers, the connection is made
because the Newton BARCLAYS were buried in the
aisle of the Aberlothnut (Marykirk) church.
They also held the lands of Balameedie sp?. Alexander BARCLAY b. 1608
was brother to David BARCLAY b. 1610 who purchased
the lands of Urie, David's son Robert was
the Robert BARCLAY the noted Quaker who was known
as the "the Apologist", he came to the American colonies for a short time.
Anyone who can clear up Alexander's family history would be appreciated.
