Tim,
Oddly enough, I may know some information about some Canadian born Barclays. The people I am referring to are those Barclays in Michigan who fell
on hard times during a MI and USA depression prior to 1860. That could have been as early as 1830, but for some reason I kind of think the 1840's was the time when quite a few Barclays left Michigan where there was absolutely no work available, so they picked themselves up and crossed the border into Canada where there was full employment and prosperity. They remained in Canada at least one generation (plus) for those who went to Canada had Canadian born kids. Then, they returned to MI and elsewhere in the states prior to the Civil War as MI had recovered from its major economic slump and rejoined their Barclay cousins in the USA.
My recollection is that about ten families left MI for Canada only to return some (?) years later prior to the Civil War. Perhaps Canadian census and/or birth records may be the big BINGO you have been looking for all these years.
By the way, we abandoned our Ireland home in County Clare in 2011, and have relocated to Warwick, PA. We are now located at 926 Hamilton Way, Warwick, PA 18974 officially as of 3/15/2011. We purchased a
fine home in an "over 55" community of about 800 people our age and older.
It is called Heritage Villageand we love it here in Bucks County, PA. Our telephone number is 215-675-3480; our email address here is [email protected]
The old IOL email address still works somehow; a mystery for me to figure out someday. But I would prefer to hear back from you at the "Gmail" internet address.
We had a grand 16 plus years in Ireland. But as I am getting older, and health care is simply rotten in Ireland, we packed it in for the USA. No regrets whatsoever. We had incredible experiences in Europe from our base in Ireland.
But as I turn 75 this coming October 25th, it was clearly time for us to relocate back to the USA close to first class health resources; so we did.
Cheers,
Cuz Hartley
