Collairnie Barclay Bookplate 1823 - Information request
I recently bought volumes I and II of a book entitled "Memoirs of the Life of Mary Queen of Scots", printed in 1823. This has a book plate in it which has a Barclay coat of arms on it. The motto below it is: Crux Christi Solamen Affert. Research so far suggests this motto belongs to the Collairnie Barclays and that they were supporters of Queen Mary (good link with the book!). It also has a Barclay signature in it which I can't read. The General Armory of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales suggests a Swedish connection. Indeed, the title of the book has been spelt incorrectly, suggesting a foreign binding. Can anyone provide me with further information which enables me to pull all this together? Many thanks in advance.
