Barclay Family Genealogy Forum

I am the ggg-granddaughter of William Barclay (1777-1861), who was one of the earliest settlers of Jackson County, AL as well as a state representative and senator from that county. He was married to Mary Rhea and had sons Archibald Rhea Barclay and Hugh G. Barclay. After many years of searching I have finally found that his father was a George Barclay, and my research puts him in Old Tryon County in the 1770's, then in Lincoln and Rutherford Counties (the former Tryon Cty.), NC in the 1780's, and finally Washington County NC/TN in the 1790's. The most interesting item is a 1790 Rutherford County census, which shows George and his wife with 1 additional male over 16 and four males under 16. William would have been 13 in 1790 so I'm guessing he probably has brothers. The only other clue I've found so far as to his relations is that a David Barclay signed an Affadavit for him in 1785 so this must have been a close relation. Since Joseph Barclay of Jackson Cty is supposed to have been a relation this should be of interest to his descendants as well.
