Barclay Family Genealogy Forum

In researching Barclay/Barkleys of my line, I have turned up some other Barclays in Texas. There was a Leah Barclay in the Brazoria area early on before Independence. there was a J Barclay killed at Goliad. (maybe one of the Georgia Volunteers?) There was also a John Barkley at San Jacinto who likely was John son of Walter and Elizabeth, but maybe not. there were maybe a couple of Barkleys in the San Antonio area. Have found son descendants of Walter's brother Samuel descended from David in the Marlin area. Then there was a Barkley who distinquished himself in WWI and lay in state at the Alamo, I am serious not kidding, only two people have ever done that, see Texas history online. About the spelling. Walter and his sons spelled their names Barkley before coming to Texas. Also that way on the Army of Republic records. Later they changed the spelling to Barclay. Do not know if all did or just some. Do not know why. I can live without knowing who these other Barclays were, but I sure would like to know. And especially about the one killed at Goliad. We had quite a few to serve but did not know any were killed. Anderson Barclay son of Walter b. 1776 was at the battle of the Bexar and maybe at Goliad but out hunting, as the story goes. A lot of Barclay information is on the Tyler County Genealogical Society Web for those interested. I look forward to hearing from more cousins. Teddy in East Texas
