Barclay Family Genealogy Forum

Dear Teddy, Thank you for replying to my query. It was interesting. Do you know where I can find information on Leah Barclay being a Madison. I have had it dinned into so often that you don't accept information without documentation. As to the Oregon Barclays: William, oldest child of Robert and Mary Hubbard Barclay of Missouri, and James Eusibius, the younges and 13 child, came to Oregon by wagon train in 1850. I have all sorts of information on these lines and will share if you are interested. I also have quite a bit of informaton on the other children of Robert of Rowan County, including your line. I have often wondered if by chance Leah's name was Anderson because that name was used by Walter's line. Do you know how it came into use in Texas? You mentioned thinking that the Henry Barkley family in Rowan County might be cousins of the Robert Barkley family. I don't think so. Several years ago I visited Berkeley Castle in England with a Barkley/Barclay tour. I was visiting the chapel connected to the castle with Jeanne Barkley, who is descended from Henry Barkley. There was a crypt with the name of a general next to the crypt of the Lord of the castle. On the general's crypt it said he had done a heroic deed for the lord. I wish I had copied the inscription. Jeanne was surprised. She said the general's name was her gr-grandfathers name. Apparently he was named for the genral. I have come to the conclusion that Barkley with a "k" is English and Barclay with a "c" is Scottish. I know that Robert of Rowan County spelled his name with a "k" but he signed his name with an X and probably didn't know what it meant. I have never seen any of his children's names spelled with a "k" have you? I will really appreciate any help you can give me in determining for certain if Leah Barkley was a Madison. Janice
