Dear Friend. Take a look at the family of Robert and Leah Barkley of Rowan Co North Carolina. Their children went to Madison Co Kentucky around 1800, and later elsewhere. The naming pattern in the family was to name a son, maybe the first born, Robert. The descendants of Robert of Rowan Co's son David, who is thought to have gone to Kentucky, are unaccounted for. RB of Rowan Co NC's son Robert and his descendants went to MO, son Walter and his descendants went to Texas. Samuel's descendants are less identifiable and it is thought that John's sons were killed by Indians except for descendants though the daughter. That leaves the descendants of David unknown, and a possible grandson Peter Barclay and some Todd and Hendericks grandchildren. I have no reason to believe that your Robert is one of these descendants, except for the name, the state and the year being around the time other grandsons were still being born. Some of the sons of Robert Barkley of Rowan Co used the Barkley spelling, some switched to the Barclay spelling. ex: Walter was Barkley when he married Elizabeth McQueen in Madison Co Kenty in 1804, but Barclay later in east Texas, as were his descendants in east Texas Start your look at this family with the will of Robert Barkley of Rowan Co NC by searching Barclay Bastion. Other information may be found by searching the Tyler Co Texas Genealogy Society Barclay pages. Also, there are numerous genealogy message boards where messages have been left. Beforwarned, there was a second family of another Robert Barkley of Rowan Co, a younger man, probably son of Henry Barkley. Do not intertwine these families when searching for your own ancestors.
