Sterling Barbour, soldier in Alaska
Yesterday I got a call from a man who was working on a
reunion of his old Army unit. He's looking for Sterling
Barbour, age about 60, maybe born in Maryland. They served
together in Alaska.
I didn't know about him.
Sterling is a name that goes way back in my family. Also
one of my great-great uncles was in Maryland during the Civil War. There's a possibility.
Please contact me if you know of this Sterling Barbour. A phone number or address would help the man working on the reunion. Anything you could furnish would help me.
My guess (or hope) is that Sterling is a decendant of
John and Catherine Barbour who came to this country about
1848 from Ireland. They brought their 4 or 5 sons and
initially scattered across the north. My Great-great
grandfather, James G. Barbour, later moved to Memphis and
then to Yazoo City. His brother, William H. Barbour, was in
Chillicothe (however it's spelled) Illinois. Another brother, John served in the Union Army but I don't know where he lived. I don't have names for the others, including another one who lived in Illinois. Another was
in Baltimore.
John, the father, was killed in a steamboat accident.
Sterling I hope someone finds you and that this info will
ring a bell. If you descend from John the Union soldier
I have his picture in uniform.
Thanks
Jeppie Barbour
