From book by Ulysses P. Joyner "The First Settlers of Orange Co. VA" page 90. Speaking first of the lands of Thomas Chew, "In later years, this land became the seat of the prominent Barbour Family and there is today located on the lands the ruins of a magnificent mansion constructed by Governor James Barbour. The property is presently owned by the Barboursville Winery which maintains the ruins and utlizes the surrunding lands in its business." Living in VA I should know perhaps something about the above Gov. James Barbour; but I just started working on this family name. Does anyone know if this man had a family ? Thank you for your help.
