"Obituary: DIED -- At his residence in Jefferson county on the 23d day of June last THOMAS BARBOUR, Esq age about 58 years. His disease was a violent billious fever which continued about 13 days. In his death, society has lost a valuable member, the poor a kind friend, and his family one of the best and kindest of husbands and fathers. His whole neighborhood exhibited the keenest sorrow at his loss, but the most precious tribute to his memory is the tears of the distressed and destitute whom he has relieved. Many are the instances in which, with hazard of loss to himself, he has employed the indigent on good wages rather than see them remain idle. Enterprizing and industrious himself it was his delight to encourage those virtues in others, and especially young men. A wife, ten children, and a very extensive connexion [sic] deplore his untimely and irrepairable loss. The grave has indeed obtained a victory which causes the widow and orphans to weep; but we trust the disaster will soon be forgot in the triumphs of a blissful immortality."
