Most Barbers in US originated in England, although there is a Spanish and a French version of the surname that was Anglicized into "Barber."Naming patterns are cultural and were strictly observed by our ancesters. If you are interested suggest you read "Albion's Seed" by David Hackett Fischer. One of the subjects he covers is naming patterns brought from various parts of England. It can be a good clue as to where you particular family originated in the old counry.
