Thanks for posting, Ronald. The challenge is to carry back even further, if possible, from John M. Barber b. 1769. Was he b. in SC? I have followed the daily email postings regarding the Lost Colony project since it's inception, but have refrained, myself, from becoming a surname coordinator for "BARBER". The reason is that though Barber was originally given as a name of interest in the project, I personally believe that no Barber had any connection to the Lost Colony. The possible exception is that there were some Barber families who shared mixed native American blood during the 18800s from Bertie County in NC, and because they were illigitimate, documentation is hard to find. DNA is a possible source.
