Interesting. I have heard many times of the Barbers associated with the Tuscarora tribe, and the list of names you give is even more interesting. Armstrong* Austin (AUSTINE, O'STEEN)* Bailie Barber, Barbour* Bennet* Blount* Chapman* Cooper* Daniel* Durrance* Griffin (GRIFFITH, GRIFFIS)* Gurganus* Harvye (HARVEY)* Hodges* King Mann* Martyn Padgett* Rollinson (RAULERSON)* Smart Swann Taylor* Thomas* White* Wilkinson* Williams The names I've starred are often found in association the the "Florida Barbers", or with the Florida area in general, especially , in the early years, with the Georgia border region, or both. Even discounting the very common names, you have presented a VERY interesting idea here. Many researchers associated with Florida genealogical history have faced the storied Brick Wall, too often, in fact. In my own ancestory, Moses Barber/Maria Leah Alvarez Davis stand out. I have heard from one source that Maria was really a Menendez. Hmmmmmmmmmm. The supposed mother of Moses, Sythe/Sytha/Cynthia is described as "A Native Woman of North Carolina". Prior to Moses' birth speculation is rife, the very crux of a brick wall. The Perquimans area has been mentioned as his father's place of origin. The Padgett name clinched it for me. In my research, I have faced too many cold trails to call it coincidence. Surely not ALL of these families' histories has been "lost in a fire". I will be watching for results, eagerly. I have long suspected a Barber connection to Roanoke, for reasons too "intuitive" to present publicly, so perhaps "intuition" will be proven correct. Notify Administrator about this message?
