No, but if his surname is not Barber it would not be useful for this purpose because of the father-to-son transmission of the Y chromosome. However, the test would be useful for determining the male line ancestry of you and your cousins, whatever surname they share with your father. Family Tree DNA has surname projects for thousands of surnames besides Barber.

I'm pretty sure my own Samuel never passed through Georgia, but the beauty of the Y chromosome test is that it will reveal if we are cousins to each other or to one of the better documented Barber lines.
