Barbers in Illinois ca. 1850
Seeking information about Elija (no "h") Barber who married Susan Koons (Suzan Kunz?)about 1840. He died before 1860 census, probably in Illinois. She was born in Ohio, location unknown,Apr 10, 1821. They had three daughters, all born in Illinois. Matilda, b. Mar 24, 1841, Sarah b. Feb.26,1845, Julia b. May 25, 1847. Census of 1860 counted Susan and her 3 daughters in Lewistown, Fulton Co., IL. Elija was not counted. Susan and her 3 daughters are buried in the cemetery at Lewistown. This is one of the two Illinois cemeteries that poet Edgar Lee Masters wrote verses about. I have more information about this branch of the Barbers after 1860, but only what you see here from before 1860.
