Scott,

Don't know about Elizabeth marrying William Henry Mason, but the 1850 of Robertson Co., TN seems to list Elizabeth's family (and give her birth year). Specifically,

1850 US Census, Tennessee, Robertson Co. (Roll 894), Page 87 (174?) lists the family as:

David CHAPMAN, 61 years old, male, Farmer, 860 in land, born in NC.

Delila CHAPMAN, 56 years old, female, born in TN.

Joseph CHAPMAN, 38 years old, male, Shoemaker, born in TN.

Elizabeth CHAPMAN, 36 years old, female, born in TN.

Rebecca CHAPMAN, 34 years old, female, born in TN.

Delila CHAPMAN, 26 years old, female, born in TN.

Mary CHAPMAN, 18 years old, female, born in TN.

I note that Delilah had sisters named Rebecca, Elizabeth (Betsy) and Mary, as well as a brother named Joseph. Further, in the same census, there are 2 William Masons listed in Robertson Co. William Mason (p. 37) and William H. Mason (p. 35).

Specifically with regard to William H. Mason, he's listed as follows (taken 29 Aug 1850):

William H. MASON, 32 years old, male, Farmer, 600 in land, b. in TN.

Elizabeth MASON, 33 years old, female, born in TN.

D.F.? MASON, 9 years old, male, born in TN.

George E. MASON, 7 years old, male, born in TN.

Nancy A. MASON, 5 years old, female, born in TN.

Jas E. MASON, 3 years old, male, born in TN.

Thomas MASON, 5/12 years old, male, born in TN.

William H. Mason lives next door to Mary PATTERSON and John PITT, two names which often appear with the NC Barbee families.

The William Mason on page 37 is 72 years old (m, farmer, 800, born in NC), with Margaret Mason (26, f, born in TN) and Ralph T. Mason (1, m, born in TN).

So I think the answer to your question MAY be that the Elizabeth, daughter of David Chapman and Delilah (Barbee) Chapman was NOT the same Elizabeth who married William Henry Mason.

Hope that helps.
