Lora, A few things. First, what's the source of your information that Thomas Brinkley Harward was the son of Bry Harward and Elizabeth (Betsy) Barbee? Second, I think the prior posts and your post actually set forth two different Barbee lines. Bry Harward married Elizabeth (Betsy) Barbee on 8 Dec 1801 in Wake Co., NC. Barbee Study 91, Supplement S-60-1, S-60-5. Betsy was born about 1786 in NC, Bry about 1779 in NC. [1850 US Census, Chatham Co., Roll 624, Page 479.] Elizabeth (Betsy) was a daughter of Goin Barbee (d. 1806-07, Chatham Co., NC). [Barbee Study 59, 91]. The lines set forth in the previous messages deal with, I believe, Goin's daughter Rebecca, who married Lewis Hopson (and had children William, Thomas Brinkley, Annie Simmons, Cynthia, Elizabeth and Nancy). [Study 91, Supplement S-91-1]. Incidentally, on the "Brinkley" issue, Thomas Brinkley Hopson, Jr., was adopted and raised by his aunt, Annie Simmons Hopson Herndon (w/o Lewis Herndon, Jr.). It may be that "Brinkley" represented a family name, perhaps a maiden name. Goin's wife is listed as Anney Barbee (d. of Christopher Barbee and Margaret Vaughter), but that's never been totally confirmed that I have seen. Also, Goin's father, John (b. abt 1715, Middlesex Co., VA; d. 1792, Orange Co., NC)'s wife is not known, so perhaps she was a Brinkley. Anyway, hope that helps straighten out the issue for you. If you have information on Bry and Betsy's children, I'd love to hear it.
