I have information that can lead to Matthew being my GGG Grandfather via his son James married to Louisa Lee. Matthew's wife Rebecca is in the 1850 Newton County census
living as HOH with a grandson, James M. Barbee, who is the son of Jeptha. I know little of Matthew himself, but I can lay a straight line from him to my grandson David James Barbee.
If you have collected any more recent information I'll gladly lay out what I have.
