Juana and Francisco Barbe appear on records in FL prior to 1815 (when FL belonged to Spain). Juana's husband Jose Alvarez was from Asturias Spain. I assume his wife and brother-in-law Francisco were too. Does any one have information about either of these Spaniards who lived in northeastern FL in the area of Amelia Island/San Fernandina Beach, Duval County, FL prior to the occupation of FL by U.S. troops in 1818-1819. After having all their belongings destroyed /confiscated by the troops, including their orange grove, restaurant, inn and general store; they were forced to flee for their safety to what is now the region of Bradford County that is known as Starke, FL. I don't blame Jose Alvarez for moving his family (including his wife's brother). At the time Jose & Juana had two sons, one an infant born during the occupation. Juana & Jose later had three daughters and another son. I'd like to know what happened to Francisco Barbe. In 1840 a suit was filed on behalf of the family by Joseph A. Barber. Francisco was was 17 in 1815 and was 42 in 1840. He could have married and had a son who would have been a young man (in his 20's) in 1840. Perhaps they Americanized the name, hence Joseph A. Barber. Any information you can provide would be graetly appreciated.
