William Barbee b 1759 in VA and died 1813 in Troy, Miami Co. OH was the son of John and Elizabeth Welch Barbee. He had only 1 marriage and that was to Mary Smith, daughter of Adam and Elizabeth Smith. That marriage took place in Lincoln Co., KY. Oct 1781.
After William died, Mary Smith Barbee married Aaron Tullis. This was Aaron's second marriage, as his first wife, Sarah had died. Aaron and Mary Smith Barbee were married 2 July 1816.
The actual (broken now) tomstone of Mary Tullis states she was the wife of Wm Barbee, who died 1813.
Miami County, Ohio historical records clearly have documentations of all these families.
Some of Wm & Mary Barbee's children married children of Aaron and Sarah Tullis. ALL documented.
There is now posted that a William Barbee, born 1751 (probably the son of Thomas and Margaret Fant Barbee) who moved to Ross/Vinton Counties Ohio, was married to this Mary Smith. This is NOT correct. That William was married to an Elizabeth.
Apparently this misinformation is now causing problems for people wanting to verify DAR admissions. The Wm (born 1759) is definitely the Rev War veteran and is buried in at Barbee Cemetery in Troy, Miami Co. OH.
