Barbee DNA - Exciting news!

Hello Barbee cousins,

I am turning cartwheels!!! We have fantastic news from the Barbee Surname DNA Project. I'm related to William! And so are 5 other participants! And of course, we are all related to each other. This is like having the other end of the family tree and major branches suddenly filled in without having to identify every ancestor along the way! I had just about given up on finding a connection to one of the early Barbee lines and I'm sure some of the other participants had also. The even better news is that if you are connected to one of the following families, then you too are related to the early William Barbee line.

--Elsea (Elzey) Barbee (1797 - 1870/1880),
--Hilary W. Barbee (b. 1817)
--John Barbee (1815 - 1870/80)
--John "Smith" Barbee (1838 - 1937) - My family line!
--Haws Barbee (1775 - 1860)
--Matthew Barbee (1780/90 - 1834)

It is beginning to look like many of us ARE cousins as some of us suspected all along. And it looks like we may be able to get some real clues on how these families connect. Luckily, the DNA results are showing that families are related, but they are also showing that different branches have different DNA patterns. The more people we test, the more we will learn about how we might connect to each other. So I really hope many of you will hop on the bandwagon with us. We are really breaking new ground here in Barbee research. Barbee's Crossroads has had over 1400 visitors since the Barbee DNA project began at the end of June. So I know there is a lot of interest out there.

If you are a Barbee and have a Y chromosome - we need you!
If you are a male Barbee and descend from Andrew or William - we desperately need YOU and will help pay for your tests!
If you aren't a male Barbee, but you are interested or excited about this research, we need your contributions!

This is an all volunteer effort and all contributions will go towards Barbee DNA testing. We have had several generous souls contribute so far and that enabled us to recruit and pay for testing descendants from the Andrew and William Barbee line. Without our contributors, we would not have had this major breakthrough! Of course, Barbee's Crossroads will make every effort to continue to provide helpful Barbee genealogical information free of charge. Please show your support for this effort. We want to start a major recruiting effort for the Andrew and William Barbee lines but we need to know that funds are available.

We should have even more exciting news next week when we get results for a descendant of Andrew Barbee. That will likely tell us whether or not Andrew and William are related.

And finally, one of the best pieces of news is that Greg Barbee (co-administrator) and I are long lost cousins! At least I have been lost and now have been found!

Happy hunting!
