Sarah E. was actually the widow of Andrew BARBEE, not a Barbee herself. There is some circumstantial evidence which seems to indicate that she might actually have been a daughter of Col. George MASON I (Col. George MASON II, the only documented child of Col. George MASON I -- and that is only through deed records, no will for the first George Mason has ever been found -- gave several hundred acres to the two children of Andrew and Sarah E. Barbee). Unfortunately, as far as I know, there is no way to document this relationship one way or the other. By her first husband, Andrew BARBEE, Sarah E. was the mother of two children -- a son, Thomas BARBEE, and a daughter (about whom nothing else is known, as far as I know). By her second husband, Thomas JAMES, she had at least three sons -- George JAMES, John JAMES, and I believe Joseph JAMES.
My maternal grandfather is descended from Thomas BARBEE and my maternal grandmother descends from John JAMES.
