Hello - I am the guilty one who started the notion that Mary Redd m John Spindle, Jr. & try as I might - I can't seem to recall it. Mary Redd did NOT marry John Spindle, Jr. Edward Sears m Mary BARBEE & she then married John Spindle, Jr. Edward Sear's will only names his wife Mary, one son William Sears & "all my children" - later divisions of his estate - picks up other children's names. Here are some of the petitions for division: 13 May 1785 (Caroline Co Order Book) - Purmenus Pilkinton (also spelled Permenas) & Sarah his wife and Robert Houston and Molly** his wife complainants against John Spindle & Mary his wife, late relict and executrix of Edward Sears dec'd, ...................... 14 Nov 1782..an instrument of Writing between Jeremiah Sears & John Spindle was proved & recorded. I DO believe that Mary Barbee*** was the youngest child & born cir 1735's - based on the birth years of her Spindle children - rather than the much earlier date some Barbee folks use.. Mary (Barbee) & John Spindle were about the age of the children of her oldest sister, Elizabeth (Barbee) Redd, Collins, Hildrup. In fact John Spindle & Mordecai Redd & John Redd (two sons of Elizabeth) - patented land together in Kentucky - Elizabeth was born cir 1713 & died in 1760 in Spostsylvania (as per an entry in the Spotsylvania Co., Va. order books) **Molly Sears (1765 - bef 1813) & Robert Houston had 11 children, one of which was Mordecai Redd Houston. Mary (Barbee) Sears Spindle**** had a son Mordecai Redd Spindle - Why the names of Mordecai Redd?? Can't fingure that one out.............. Still have a Mary Redd, young daughter of Elizabeth (Barbee) Redd, Collins, Hildup - Mary Redd was born late 1730's to 40's (as per guardian records) - have no idea what happened to her. FRANCIS BARBEE Isaac Hawes in his will in Essex Co (I have a copy) mentions Hawes Barbee & John Barbee his grandsons - We think??? Francis wife's first name was Elizabeth but??? To make the even more interesting, John Spindle & Mary by a number of deeds purchase all the land of Isaac Hawes from his heirs....(I think I have all the deeds) Isaac Hawes - another grandson of Isaac Hawes - marries Anne C. Redd, daughter of Mordecai Redd. Anne
