Would you be able to explain the implications of "who came to Canada as a 'filles du roi'"?

For example, was she banished? was she a diplomat?

Have you ever seen a name such as "Ditamus"?
"d' Amuse"? or some such phonetic variation?

I would be most appreciative of your thoughts and comments. My middle name is BARBARE--named for my grandmother Margaret Lamar BARBARE. My gggrandfather Thomas Peter BARBARE stated his name actually included "Ditamus" (among others).
