Hilary: My email is [email protected] and I would be glad to hear further from you. You are probably right about the cause of William Grieve changing the spelling of his name -but a connection to the older line would be of interest - and hope blooms eternal!
That bit about the origin of "Parris" is fascinating and I would be glad to know about it. I have always wondered about that rather odd name. Was it originally a surname? Incidentally, did you know that the name is mis-spelled (as Parriss) in the bronze plate on his coffin? I suppose an error by a hurried undertaker -- but an error for sure, since I have a record of his marriage and a copy of his will, both with 2 r's but only 1 s.
