Does anyone know why Mary Alleyne Knowles, who died in 1742 in England, would be registered in the death records of Long Island Bahamas? She was married to Capt. Charles Knowles who later became Gov. of Jamaica. Did they have land on Long Island? Mary was the daughter of John Alleyne and Mary Terrill, and grandaughter of Reynold Alleyne and Isabella Gay. She and Charles had a son who died at age 20 at sea. There are now many many Knowles on Long Island and I'm wondering if Charles and Mary are their ancestors. Any info greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Anne Woodall
