Re: Gilday BARBADOS Search

My Great Grandfather JOHN GILDAY was born in Barbados in 1848.His father was JAMES GILDAY, SOLDIER, born 1823. He was stationed in Barbados.
I have JAMES GILDAY'S death certificate showing that he died in the Work House in Preston, Lancashire England in 1853 from Phthisis Pulmonalis. He had been in the Work House Hospital for 15 months.
JOHN Gilday was a TAILOR by profession and he lived in Preston all his life. He married Amelia Leeming on 24th February 1867.
My Grandfather was FREDERICK FRANCIS GILDAY,born 1889 in Preston Lancashire He was a deep sea FISHERMAN sailing out of FLEETWOOD, Lancashire and then joined the Merchant Navy.

Hope this is of interest to you.

I am searching for the regiment that JAMES GILDAY served in and also the name of his wife and his nationality. I think he was Irish.

If anyone can help me I will be very grateful

Joan Burns
