Hi James,

I descend from William Calvin Barbe's older sister Matilda Ellen Barbe who married Albert Newton Horne. Our family has always gone with the "Barbe" spelling for whatever reasons and I think a lot of it has to do with whether or not anyone bothered to correct the census enumerator or county clerk when the names were entered on record. Our Gr-Gr-Grandpa Lacy Johnson Barbe's death certificate shows the "Barbe" spelling, but I do know that a few in other branches of the family kept the "Barb" spelling.
I'm looking forward to Al's book too and in the meantime, if you want to share information, I'm happy to help if I can.

Your cousin,
Tara

My lineage:
Johann Jacob Barbe & Catharina Richter von der Merck
Jacob Barb Jr. & Mary Barbara Miller
Jacob Barb III & Elizabeth Kendrick
Lacy Johnson Barbe & Frances Jane Barker
Matilda Ellen Barbe & Albert Newton Horne
Dorothy Matilda Ellen "Mae" Horne & John Ferrell Wallace
Carl Eugene Wallace & Joyce Childers
Tara Lynn Wallace & Steve Maggard (me and my husband)
