Yes, he was the son of Johann Jacob Barb. I published the Barb genealogy in 1993. No longer in print, but this is part of what is known about Peter. Ask me whatever you wish. PETER BARB, b 1772 Loudoun Co., Va., d 22 May 1838 Fairfield Co., O., m 15 Mar 1796 Hardy Co., (W.) Va., Esther Roberts, b 13 Dec 1775 Bucks Co., Pa., d 13 Aug 1831 Fairfield Co., dau. of Thomas Roberts (son of David) and Margaret McBride, and sister of Mary Roberts [x41] and David Roberts, from whom Peter bought his first land in Fairfield Co. Both bur. Custard Cem., Richland twp., Fairfield Co. Peter Barb's nephew Elkanah Barb told Olive McLaughlin [the first Barb family historian] that his father Jacob Barb Jr. believed that the bulk of Jacob Barb's estate went to Peter because he was crippled and that Peter's mother had asked him on her deathbed to "remember Peter." Court records of the settlement of Jacob Barb's estate, however, indicate that Peter received no more than the rest of his siblings. Peter Barb was a farmer, scoolteacher, and a Whig. He lived in Shenandoah, Rockingham and Hardy Co.'s, Va. Mrs. McLaughlin wrote that Peter and family moved from Hardy Co. to Ohio abt 1814 (confirmed by the fact that his last taxes in Hardy Co. were paid in 1813), initially settling in Ross Co., then to Fairfield Co. He purchased his first land in Ohio (104 a. NE 1/4 Sect. 9, Richland tp., near the town of Rushville) on 19 Oct 1814 from his brother-in-law David Roberts. Peter Barb died intestate and an itemized inventory of his estate was recorded in the probate court of Fairfield Co. on 12 June 1838. The total amount of the appraisement of Peter's personal goods and chattels was $213.69. He set aside two portions of his land for public use: 1) one-quarter (1/4) a. for a school which the township had already built and in which Peter had taught; and 2) one (1) a. for a cemetery known today as the Custard Cem. Peter's farm was distributed to his five surviving children, as described in their subsequent chapters. "Peter Barb was well educated in German, English, French, Latin, Greek and Spanish. He went to college in Hagerstown, Md., also in Philadelphia. Graduate, taught school all his life & would never accept public office. Was about 5'8", had black hair, dark eyes, weighed 160 lbs., fair complexion. Quick and excitable temper. Well versed in Scripture, but never joined a church."
