Oh, my yes! The Bantas and Duries are well connected for several generations.

In Howard Durie's book there are 76 different Bantas connected with the Durie family. Throw in the 160 Demarests and it gets even more complicated.

My direct line seems to have only one Banta and one Demarest, but they certainly were well aquainted. Property changed hands and joint business ventures were common among these families.

In one case two Banta brothers married widows of two Durie brothers. Now, the Durie men and the Banta men were 1st cousins. Each family had children by the deceased Duries and then had children by the second marriages. So, there were half-siblings of both names raised together and a cousin connections between the two families that would take the rest of the day to sort out.

The Durie children would have been siblings OR 1st cousins to each other and BOTH half-siblings and second-cousins-once-removed to the Banta children in their own household. I think???
