The hard work of locating and photographing the copy of the portrait was done by John Banta. From what he tells me, I doubt whether another copy could be painted at this time. The arrangements even to view the copy were quite complicated and protracted. Consider having the negative mentioned in my original message printed on canvas by Dinon Photo in Phoenix. When done at a suitable size and well-framed, the effect is very similar to that of a copy in oil. The original portrait was probably painted on wood; perhaps you could consult an art historian for the most realistic manner of printing the negative to retain the surface character of the original. If you do this, please let us know what is recommended.
