Banta Family Genealogy Forum

Your help is urgently needed in locating family/descendants for this man below:A. T. Banta was a private in the 8th Kentucky Cavalry, CSA. He was one of John Hunt Morgan's famed "Raiders". On July 19, 1863 his regiment, along with John Hunt Morgan, engaged Union troops at Buffington Island and A. T. Banta was killed. It is very likely that his body is buried on or near the battlefield. As you may have heard, the battlefield at Buffington Island is in imminent danger of being mined by a gravel company, despite the fact that more than 60 men may be buried on the grounds. I am trying to locate more personal information on A.T. Banta in hopes to perhaps find family before it is too late. This soldier deserves to be more than just a mere name without a face or a person without a family that might care enough to step in if they just knew about this travesty. Any help or information you can provide would be deeply appreciated. Cordially, Marlitta H. Perkins Spokesperson, Morgan's Men Association and Eastern Kentucky Brigade, SCV Officer, Buffington Island Battlefield Group, Inc.
