Peg: Don't know if this is the family you are looking for, but there were Bantas in Switzerland Co., Ind in the early 1800's. They moved in 1832 to Tazewell Co. Ill. 1840 census for Tazewell Co lists Albert Banta, Jacob Banta, Cornelius Banta and another Jacob Banta. 1850 census will show them in Woodford Co, Ill which was formed from Tazewell. In 1852 they moved to Wayne Co. Iowa. There is a Banta cemetery there. All these moves seemed to be with my Brown family who also made the same trek and ended up in Wayne Co., Ia. I have yet to find any relationship (other than friends) between the two clans, tho. Let me know if I can help any more.

Jeanne Roland,
Des Moines, IA
