John,
What a nice surprise to get your reply. Do you remember I emailed you over a year ago...I saved a copy of it, the date was 11-23-1998.This is great!!!
Yes, Margaret Harvey Banister did apply for Civil War Pension.I received the documents which were of very great interest. She applied for pension in 1899.It is like a personal interview with her answers to questions written in the blank space. She states she had lived in Annona, TX for 30 years. So they must of left Louisiana 4 years after their marriage.(1869)
I have a copy of the "LA Confederate List".It lists 5 Banisters:
1.Baalam(my gr, gr, grandfather),
2.H.(believe his name was Henry but not sure or if he is related to our line or not, must of been wounded "Absent, Sick at Clinton, MS"),
3.Henry D.,
4.James(believe him to be Baalam's brother-list states he was on the Prisoner of War-Paroled June 12th, 1865,
5.R. Sr.(I think his name was Richard(not sure if any relation or not)
Our cousin, Dottie Wheat, in Louisiana said that someone had told her one of William Banister(father of Henry Baalam and James)brothers fought and was killed in the battle in Vicksburg, MS and is buried in the National Cemetary.
I have talked to Meryl Holland and she confirmed that Margaret, daughter of Henry Baalam and Margaret Banister, received her father's Civil War Pension for 11 years after her mother died.
I hope this helps!!I will email you also.
Your cousin,
Patti
