Carol, This is what a "rooter" lives for--to find distant cousins with whom to share and to marvel at what great ancestors we have! So much enjoyed your message. All the information I have are personal anecdotes from my father and notes from a cousin who is also researching this line. According to my cousin's notes, our information differs in one respect. I'll just quote from her notes, and of course you may disagree. Jane Spencer was married to William, not James. The error can be traced to a book "Old Kent, The Eastern Shore of Maryland," published in 1876. The error was due to an incorrect reading of the Administrative letters of the estate of James Banning, who was her SON, not her husband. That Jane was married to William is established by church records and deeds. She was buried at the home of her son Jeremiah. This information from "Banning Branches" by Leroy Banning. William was married to Jane Spencer about 1722. He sold 50 acres of land called "Goose Neck" April 30, 1745, and leased it back for the life of himself and his wife. William's name was recorded as "Bandy" from time to time. My dad and his cousins have what they call the Banning Reunion every June. He grew up with them, so they get together and talk about their childhoods. Gene Johnson
