Hi Gene: Saw your Banning query on the Gen Forum page. I have the same line of Bannings as you. I am pretty desperate to find someone to compare and share with. Need some blanks filled in and some history.
My paternal Grandmother was Mary Lucinda Banning.
She was the daughter of Rev. Elias Rose Banning and his 4TH wife, Maggie Chatham. I do have siblings of Elias.
He was the son of Alexander Banning (Jr)
who was the son of Alexander Banning (Sr),
who was the son of James Banning who married Anjelica Frazier (daughter of Benoni Frazier). James and Anjelica were parents of your Benoni Banning.
James father was also James who married Jane Spencer He was born in 1692 in Talbot MD.
His father was also a James who was the son of Stephen b. abt 1625 England,
son of Stephen born 1600 England
son of Stephen b. abt. 1588 England.
I have other information (not proven) that says in 1500-1588 there were two Banning brothers who moved to London from Amsterdam and became prosperous and influential businessmen. Their descendants invested in the early Jamestown settlements in Virginia and eventually moved there.
I also have information from my Grandmother concercing a Banningham England, where some king supposedly gave some land to a Banning for performing his duties well. Her papers have been lost since her death. I would LOVE to have confirmation on this.
I would love to share and compare notes with anyone connected to this line. My material is not in my computer yet, so things will be a bit slower than my techie counterparts. Hope to hear from you soon. Carol
