Carol my ancestor was Benoni Banning. My ancestors have told thier children for generation that their family came from Holland. And their ancestors were the "Black Dutch." Whatever that means?? After a lot of research I found that the Dutch were inter married with the Spainards while they ruled Holland. Because some of the children of these marriages were darker skined, eyed and had dark hair than the fair skined Dutch they were labeled the "Black Dutch" Another Dutch painter Van Der Helst did a painting called "Celebrating the Peace of Munster" A Jacob Banninng was the model for this painting.
