Daniel,
I have the following brief history of my family:
In 1838 Bernhard, wife Maria, children Marian, Bernard (12), Christine, Gertrude and Herman (4) arrive in Baltimore on the Bark "Minerva" from Pruesen via Bremen.
Herman begat Frederic who begat a slew (13) of children by two wives, one of which was Herman Henry, who begat Frederick Bernard who begat me.
I have not made a link to any of the Banke tribe in Wisconsin, Minnesota or Washington. I have traced my branch to Baltimore, New Jersey, Chicago, Buchanan, Michigan and other parts, believe that some ended up in Atlanta and Texas, but no solid links yet.
We loose Herman between 1850-60 and don't know if he moved on or expired. We do know that he and his son Fred were making uniforms for the Union Army and went to Lincolns funeral, some say that they were invited to the White house while he was still alive.
I have not traced Bernard his older brother, it is possible that he moved out to the Mid West sometime in the late 1840's? Would any of this jive with what you have?

regards,

Jeff
