Did Sarah Bangs of Falmouth, now Portland, ME marry Gershom Rogers [int. 26 June 1756] also of Falmouth, ME? She was the sister of Joshua Bangs, and Mehitable Bangs, who married Gen. Jedidiah Preble as his second wife. This Bangs family was a large one, prominent in the colonial port of Falmouth. Sarah's father owned an island in the coastal waters around Falmouth. There is some question whether Sarah Bangs was Gershom's second wife, or whether her sister-in-law, widow of her brother, Joshua, married Gershom. Sarah Bangs' widowed sister-in-law was Sarah Waite Bangs. Three or four BANGS family genealogies state that Sarah Bangs married Gershom Rogers. "Maine Families in 1790" Vol.3, pp. 240-241 states that Sarah Waite Bangs married Gershom. William Willis in his history of Portland in separate sections of his book says first it was Sarah Bangs, and later that it was Sarah Waite Bangs. Can anyone help me? Although I have listed my home email address as the reply site, I am currently visiting in Montana and will be here until December 29. I can be reached here @ callart@digisys.net I would really appreciate any leads, suggestions, reference resources, Family Bible information etc. Muriel K. Jackson
