I am a direct descendant of John Banges and Jane Chavis.
From information that I have, John Banges was a Yeoman and Church Warden in the parish of Hempstead, Essex. He married Jane Chavis 30 January 1586 at Panfield, Essex.
I have a transcript of James` will and apparently Jane died shortly after her husband not proving the will, which was done at Dunmow by his son James. Following an inquisition the property went to his grandson Thomas. Thomas then left the property to his son John who subsequently died leaving no children. This meant that the male line of the Hempstead family became extinct.
