Terri,

Your Ann was the daughter of James and Ann
(Bragg) Bangs.

James Bangs, born about 1810, was the son of
Jonathan Bangs and his first wife, Betsey (Boswell) Bangs, who married 1797 in Clinton, Maine. James Bangs and Ann Bragg
married about 1830. He died 18 Oct 1856
at age 41 and is buried at Knox Corner Cemetery in Knox, Waldo County, Maine. On
25 Dec 1856, Ann married her brother-in-law,
Knowles Bangs.

Children of James and Ann (Bragg) Bangs:
1.SARAH JANE BANGS (b. ca. 1831) married 1.

Census (age 11).

Children of Knowles and Ann (Bragg) Bangs
Bangs:
1.Unnamed daughter (b. ca. 1860) age 4 months on 1860 Census.
There may have been others. I have never
seen the 1870 or 1880 Census for Waldo County.

Jonathan Bangs was born about 1770/71 in
Maine (probably Gorham). He came to Waldo
County in 1795. His age at the time of his
death on 2 Dec 1843 was given as 72 in "The
Republican Journal" (a Belfast newspaper),
15 Dec 1843 edition. Jonathan Bangs "of 25
Mile Pond Settlement" (now Unity, ME)filed an
intention to marry Betsey Boswell "of Sandy
Stream Settlement" on 10 Jun 1797 in Clinton,
Kennebec, Maine. Jonathan married his second
wife, Amelia (Philbrick?)sometime prior to
his death in 1843. Amelia Bangs, widow, was
living in the home of Nathan Aborn for the
1860 Census.

The children of Jonathan Bangs:
1.ANNA BANGS (b. ca. 1798/9) married Benjamin
Bryant 6 Dec 1817.
2.MARY BANGS (b. ca. 1800)married Nathan White 12 Oct 1826
3.KNOWLES BANGS (b. 1805) married 1. 1830, Abigail Clark and 2. 1856, Ann (Bragg) Bangs,
the widow of his brother, James Bangs.
4.JANE BANGS (d. 1839, age 30) buried Knox
Corner Cemetery, Knox, ME
5.JAMES BANGS (b. ca. 1810) married Ann Bragg about 1830. James died 1856.
6.RELIANCE BANGS married Stephen Chase 23 Dec
1832.

Jonathan Bangs (b. ca. 1770/71) parents are
unknown. In various sources, his parents
are given as Jonathan and Deborah (Hurd) Bangs, Barnabas and Lourahama (Elwell) Bangs
and James and Deborah (Cates) Bangs. I am
still looking.

My husband is a descendant of Knowles Bangs
and his first wife, Abigail Clark.

Luanne Sterling Mank
