I am certain that your Bill Bangs is William Sayers Bangs, son of Eli Anderson Bangs and Ann Lawrence. William was born 27 Feb 1842 in New York city and died 9 Sep 1924 in New Richmond, Clermont County, Ohio. He is buried at Wesley Cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio. I however have as his wife Martha Maria Lindsey (not Vanderbuilt), a daughter of Jocob Linsey and his wife a miss. McPherson. She was born 23 Nov 1845 and died 7 Apr 1913 and is buried in the same cemetery. I have as there children Edward who married Mary Reingold, Elizabeth, Florence, William Jr who married a Minnie ?, Ida and Ann who married a Mr. Isler. The grandparent of William was Stephen Anderson Bangs and I have no idea who his wife was.
